OTI has recently implemented new keypad text messaging functions in OptionPower® software (Version 4.0).
When using OptionFinder G3 keypads for voting purposes, the presenter or facilitator is able to broadcast voting instructions to individual keypad screens, (e.g. Please vote now…, etc.). During a vote each participant is able to see a text message confirming the selection they made by looking at their keypad screen. With this feature the keypad user is able to verify that their choice has been successfully communicated. If they made a mistake or wish to change their mind they simply select a different choice. The last answer entered on the participant keypad is the answer recorded for final tabulation.
Choice verification text messaging is particularly helpful for keypad users who are physically or technologically challenged. The system can also transmit voting instructions or text-based "thank you" messages and personal acknowledgements.
Here is an example of how the G3 keypad message confirmation works. Your boss has called you and your colleagues into a meeting. She wants to gather intel on employees’ perceptions of the new policies. You and your colleagues each receive a G3 keypad for an employee survey and use these tools to vote on the answers to survey questions presented on PowerPoint slides.
Upon starting the presentation, your boss comes to a voting slide. The question reads “How happy are you with your benefits package?” Your keypad now displays a message that reads “Vote Now” so you look back at the presentation to decide on your answer. You can choose between the following options “1.Very Happy, 2.Somewhat Happy, 3.Not Happy”. You first press the number 1 on your keypad and the confirming text message “Very Happy” pops up on your keypad screen.
You decide to change your mind because you would like to see some changes to the benefits package. You press the number 2 and “Somewhat Happy” pops up on your screen.
Since you voted twice, won’t two answers be recorded? No. Only the last answer you entered will be recorded. See? That wasn’t too painful!
